Brakes are an essential part of any vehicle. It you did not have that, vehicles would be useless... or plain out death traps. If you go, you must stop, but how does it work?
How Does a Brake work?
When you mash the brake pedal, it creates a leverage action against the master cylinder which in turn, forces brake fluid through the brake lines with high pressure. On each wheel there are brake calipers attached that are connected to the brake lines. As the pressure of the fluid increases during the braking action of the driver, it causes hydraulic pressure in the calipers one to eight pistons to increase. As the brake fluid pressure increases, it forces the brake pistons to push against the brake pads toward the brake disc. This disk brake hovers over the rotor which is connected to the axle. The brake pads have materials that over time wear out due to the friction, but this friction is what makes the car stop. It is the friction of the brake pads on the rotors that brings the 2000 lb + vehicle to a stop from the momentum of traveling at high speeds.
